Dr Katharine Downie, Head of Quality Assurance, M&E, Knowledge Management and Innovation for the Somalia Resilience Program (SomReP) at the Brussels Development Briefing no. 51 on Agriculture as an engine of economic reconstruction and development in fragile countries. The meeting was organised by the ACP – EU Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), in collaboration with the European Commission / DEVCO, the ACP Secretariat, and CONCORD.
Dr Katharine’s presentation focused on Building resilience to mitigate the effects of future shocks in the agricultural sector in Somalia. A study conducted by SomReP on Positive Deviance which aimed at characterizing the attributes of households that could be classified as “positive deviants” (those demonstrating coping strategies or well-being indicators, beyond those of the general community) showcased an example of a sustainable practice in production and market development and positive impact at local level.
